Got a question?
How does the translation process work?
First, we discuss your aims and requirements for the project and how the translation will fit into your overall business strategy – is it a communications piece, exhibition material, web copy, product marketing, a report?
Next, I send you a quote tailored to your project. Once you approve it and supply the purchase order number, your order is confirmed.
When you receive the translation, please feel free to ask me about anything you’re unsure of before you confirm approval. I encourage feedback on my translations as it helps me to get to know you and your business better and makes working together more effective.
For more details, please see ‘How It Works’.
How long does it take?
Every project comes with its own challenges and needs to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. However, as a rough guide, a professional translator can translate circa 2,500 words per day.
This figure will depend on the type of text – for transcreation (translating creative text such as brand taglines), it takes much longer to come up with effective solutions, e.g. transcreating a 5-word strapline can take several hours, so it’s important to allow enough time for this.
How much does it cost?
Each project is unique and needs a bespoke quote. Translation is a highly complex skill demanding considerable linguistic expertise, in-depth subject knowledge and research ability, so you can expect it to cost in line with other professional services. For a free, no-obligation quote, please drop me a line.
How do I know my confidential documents are safe?
I fully understand the need for confidentiality. I do not upload my clients’ materials to AI tools or any other publicly accessible program. Your documents will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Additionally, some clients like to have an NDA in place, while others prefer to use password-protected file transfer protocols. Ultimately, I want you to feel reassured that your documents are in safe hands.
Can I hire you on a retainer basis?
I have a small number of spots open to clients wishing to work on a retainer basis. These spots are based around your needs and the scope can be as elastic as you need it to be.
Do you offer interpreting services?
No, I do not offer interpreting, subtitling or dubbing services – I only work with the written word. However, I may be able to recommend a colleague who does. Email me and I’ll try to help.
Do you use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to translate?
No. There are many reasons why I choose not to use AI tools for translation purposes, some of which are summarised here. AI has various uses, but translation is more complex than it appears and requires a human approach.
Can you translate into other languages?
I only translate from German and French into English. It’s standard practice in the translation sector to only translate into your native language (or a language you truly master to native level – this is not the same as bilingualism, as a native speaker understands every quirk and nuance of the language to a far greater degree than someone who simply has a good command of two languages).
I may be able to recommend a colleague who works in the direction you’re looking for, so feel free to contact me for recommendations.
